Kanye West is a complex artist, with his point view totally unique from most of the public. And Kanye West also stated that he almost quit rap because it is considered as the “devil music”. But, before Jesus Is King, the album Yandhi is lost in translations, which means it could be not released when Kanye starts to find his way in God.

But in a previous interview, Kanye West also derived the similarity between concert and a church. Moreover, I think Jesus is King is a cool album and a unique piece of art. Not so long time ago, Kanye West also released Simulation Baptize that I reviewed here. However, the tracks now seem to be deleted.

Whether Jesus is King is a sincere album by Kanye West for looking back at his faith or making or creating his huge empire, Kanye is clearly one of the biggest characters of today’s pop culture. I wrote about people that are going to church for Kanye or because of God here.  Because if I were you guys that coming to Kanye Sunday Service, I would like to see Kanye, and I can’t lie about it.

I mean from all the Christian rappers out there Kanye is the one that put out everything to be on public, let’s say Chance the Rapper that fused Christianity and even gospel for the Coloring Book Mixtape, Social Club Misfits and FLAME that mostly centred his albums on Christianity, for example, Our World Redeem. I don’t see them creating their own church, which is interesting that gospel rap seems to be a new thing, although it’s been there for a while.

But before the released of Jesus is King, Kanye also mentioned the Christianity terms or influences in some of his songs in the past, Jesus Walk and No Church in the Wild as for examples. Kanye West even got a track called I Am a God in his album Yeezus and credited God as his featured artist.

Kanye has been through a lot though, so it makes sense that Jesus is King is probably his redemption album. Right after he almost quits rap, his pastor Tyson;

“One time, he told me that he wasn’t going to rap,” Tyson says in the interview at the 23:30 mark. “I said, ‘Why not?’ He said, ‘Well, that’s the devil’s music.’ I said, ‘Hey, man. Rap is a genre. You can rap for God.’ I think he was already thinking about it a little bit, but I just definitely said, ‘Hey, bro. I think you need to use your talents that God’s given you and use that platform for God.'” – Through The Fader

The album also experienced several pushed back, as it was supposed to release at 12 October 2019. Even during the d-day of the release of Jesus Is King there are some changes along several records.

To be fair, I feel like the songs are seems taking on biblical topics, for example, the track Selah. I think Kanye tries to preach the gospel through the lines;

Everything old shall now become new
The leaves will be green, bearing the fruit
Love God and our neighbor, as written in Luke
The army of God and we are the truth

Which I think Kanye has opted for a new life, new chapter through Jesus is King. The next track Follow God, Kanye has talked that he is now a Christ-follower, even for the next track, Closed on Sunday Kanye wrote about his repentance. I think Kanye has an interesting approach to gospel music. He wrote a song about that people don’t need to worry about things through the song Everything We Need.

For me, the most “gospelly” song throughout Jesus Is King is God Is. Kanye decided to give his life to be Christ-follower. I would totally love God Is, Kanye West wrote about his struggle and he showed how important the role of God in his life. In Jesus Is King, Kanye West also collaborated with the renown gospel singer Fred Hammond on Hands-On. Overall I think Kanye is really serious about gospel now.

Also, Kanye wrote the importance of the gospel against the demon, through the song Use This Gospel, the song also featured Clipse and Kenny G. Last but not least, Jesus is Lord is the last track of Jesus is King.  It is the closing track for Jesus Is King and once again it proclaims that Jesus is God.

I think the album is super creative and congratulations for Kanye West, but no one knows what was the real intentions. If the intentions are good and focusing on God, it will be great. Let us know what do you think about Jesus is King.

Every knee shall bow
Every tongue confess
Jesus is Lord
Jesus is Lord
Every knee shall bow
Every tongue confess
Jesus is Lord
