Arthur Ashe was one of the most greatest tennis player of all the time, sadly he passed 5 years before I was born, he was died to AIDS related disease that he got from an infected blood during his operation of his heart surgery, I personally love the quotes by him, and his legacy, as I never see him “play” on TV, many artists like NAS, Ghost Face Killah, and Childish Gambino seems to fond with him (linked below). One of the most touching story was
From the world over, he recieved letters from his fan, one of them conveyed: “Why does God have to select you for such a bad disease?”.
To this Arthur Ashe replied: The world over–50,000,000 children start playing tennis, 5,000,000 learn to play tennis, 500,000 learn profesional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach the Wimbledon, 4 to semi finals, 2 to finals. When I was the one holding the cup, I never asked god “Why me?”.
And today in pain, I should not be asking GOD “why me?”.
I think to said that at your worse condition is the hardest way to say that, but that encourage me to at least be thankful at my worst day/moment, because at the end of the day it might be part of my story, journey. I knew that God never made a mistakes on His plan because we were created based on His plan, hence there’s no such things as mistakes or wrong placement, I think the most important thing when Arthur Ashe highlighted that he was the chosen one, and he didn’t see it from the negative point of view, it makes sense that there are other people who are probably less fortunate then us. Because it was stated at Psalm 24 : 3 ;
Psalm 23:4 New International Version (NIV)
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
To start wit there are so many achievements by Arthur Ashe including the first African-American tennis player to ever win Wimbledon, US Open, and Australian Open. One of the most memorable quotes by him for me is “If I were to say, “God, why me?” about the bad things, then I should have said, “God, why me?” about the good things that happened in my life.” He might not be alive today, but the impact for the other generations are here, for example, Arthur Ashe Kids Day, and Arthur Ashe Courage Award are definitely given a little strength to show that courage, togetherness are going to help some people little by little.
Not only that he also proofing that athlete needs brain as well he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, from the fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi. Arthur Ashe also experiencing racism, due to his skin colour, and back then tennis is one of the sports that dominated by mostly white people, but that doesn’t stop him. I guess we need to learn from the obstacle that people are facing its day, today I also meet one of the most amazing people of Melbourne. So I really hope that you guys enjoy your day out 🙂
He could of been the next Jordan, who knows, the next Emmitt
Young Tiger Woods, or the new Arthur Ashe of tennis
Dope-boy swag, I always wanted that
But my persona was always more of that Arthur Ashe
That was put there by the squad
Look here, I’m the God on the mic on the track
Like Arthur Ashe with a tennis rack, tell the DJ, spin it back
